Chinese shares close higher

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.38 percent, at 2,917.01 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.48 percent higher at 10,916.31 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 813 billion yuan (about US$116.4 billion), shrinking from 871.1 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 690 to 690 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,142 to 950 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the sectors of insurance and semiconductor saw robust growth in share prices, with shares of Shenzhen Fine Made Electronics Group Co. Ltd. rising by the daily 10-percent limit to 34.65 yuan per share.

Stocks in mask, cloud gaming and farming sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.22 percent to close at 2,069.22 points Friday.
