Seville's La Cartuja Stadium to host Copa del Rey finals until 2023

MADRID - The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Wednesday that the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville (southern Spain) will host the final of this season's Copa del Rey on April 18 and subsequent finals until 2023.

The 57,000 capacity stadium was built in 1999 as part of a possible bid by the city to host the Olympic Games and hosted that year's World Athletics Championships

The 57,000 capacity stadium was built in 1999 as part of a possible bid by the city to host the Olympic Games and hosted that year's World Athletics Championships.

Then the stadium that cost over 120 million euros (around US$135 million) to construct hosted the 2001 Copa del Rey and 2003 UEFA Cup finals, received Spain's national team on four occasions, held the Davis Cup tennis competition twice.

But apart from some outdoor music concerts, the stadium has hardly been used and has lain completely empty since 2018.
