CBA: Wang Zhelin's 51 points help Fujian overcome Bayi

JINJIANG/GUANGZHOU/BEIJING - Wang Zhelin scored a career-high 51 points to help Fujian Sturgeons beat visiting Bayi Rockets 113-97 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Friday.

"Wang deserves this achievement. I hope he can improve more and more," said Fujian head coach Aleksandar Kesar.

The visitors had a good start to lead the first quarter 27-24 before Wang hit all four baskets in the second quarter for Fujian to come back from behind 54-46.

The second half witnessed Wang's unstoppable dominance in the paint as Fujian gradually extended the advantage to 81-64 into the final quarter, and sealed the victory at 113-97.

"Today we didn't defend well against Wang Zhelin and Chen Linjian, which is the main reason why we lost the game," Bayi's head coach Wang Zhizhi said.

Chen posted 24 points for Fujian, while Bayi's Aersilan came off the bench for a team-high 20 points.

In Guangzhou, Si Kun's three-pointer in the last second gifted Guangzhou Loong Lions a 116-113 victory against Qingdao Eagles, ending Guangzhou's 15-game losing streak.

The two teams tied at 110-all before Wang Qingming hit a three-pointer to lift Qingdao a 113-110 lead with 13 seconds on the clock.

Jia Mingru answered a three to level the game again at 113-all with seven seconds to go.

Zhao Dapeng's screen foul handed over the ball to Guangzhou before Chen Yingjun dribbled to the front for Si to make the winning three-pointer in the very last second.

In Beijing, a more balanced Beijing Ducks claimed a narrow 91-87 victory over Shenzhen Aviators.

With 8.2 seconds remaining, Shenzhen's Li Muhao scored a big three-pointer following up an inbound pass turnover to cut the deficit to 90-87, but could not save his team from losing its third game in a row.

Zhai Xiaochuan scored a team-high 23 points for Beijing, while Justin Hamilton and Jeremy Lin contributed a combined 38 points. Allerik Freeman made his league debut and posted 24 points for Shenzhen.

In other games, Jilin Northeast Tigers beat Xinjiang Flying Tigers 102-94, with Dominique Jones notching 41 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, while Zhejiang Golden Bulls bulldozed Beijing Royal Fighters 126-97.
