WASHINGTON - DC United announced on Tuesday that they have acquired Peru winger Edison Flores from Monarcas Morelia of Mexico.

What has really impressed us is his commitment to the team. He is a versatile and gritty two-way player who plays with a real pulse

Flores, 25, had 12 goals and six assists in 47 matches with Morelia. He was a key member of the Morelia side that finished seventh in the just-completed 2019 Mexican soccer league.

Flores was also instrumental in Peru's qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, which ended a 36-year drought for the country. He started three group matches at the tournament hosted in Russia, then last summer, Flores helped Peru advance to the final of Copa America, the South American championship.

"We are excited to add Edison to the team ahead of the 2020 season," DC general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement. "He is an exciting and dynamic attacking player who creates and scores goals. What has really impressed us is his commitment to the team. He is a versatile and gritty two-way player who plays with a real pulse."

"Edison is a proven international player with Peru and was a major contributor for them in the 2018 World Cup and in their impressive run to the final in the Copa America."

United will kick off the new season with a clash against Colorado Rapids on Feb 29.
