HONG KONG - Hong Kong will suspend the quarantine exemption arrangements for arrivals from Macao under two travel schemes after two COVID-19 cases were detected in Macao, according to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s government.

"In light of the latest pandemic situation in Macao, all arrivals in Hong Kong from Macao will not be exempted from compulsory quarantine under the Return2hk Scheme or Come2hk Scheme from September 25 at 10 pm,” a spokesperson for the HKSAR government said in a statement.

SMS notifications will be sent to affected travelers who have already applied for quotas under the Return2hk Scheme and Come2hk Scheme to inform them of the latest arrangement, said the government spokesman

Anyone who has stayed in Macao on the day of arrival in Hong Kong or during the past 14 days will not be exempted from compulsory quarantine upon arrival, the spokesman said.

“Instead, they will be subject to 14-day compulsory quarantine at home if they have not been fully vaccinated; and to 7-day compulsory quarantine at home for those who have been fully vaccinated. All arrivals from Macao have to undergo tests at prescribed times under the established requirement.”

SMS notifications will be sent to affected travelers who have already applied for quotas under the two schemes to inform them of the latest arrangement, said the government spokesman.

The HKSAR government will continue to maintain close communication and liaison with the Macao authorities on the pandemic prevention and control measures of the two places, the spokesperson added.
