Chinese shares close higher Monday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.16 percent to 3,140.72 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2 percent higher at 9,779.21 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 1.1 trillion yuan (about $155.28 billion), up from the 1.03 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Shares related to synthetic biology, chemicals and graphite electrodes led the gains, while those related to education, tourism and quantum technology saw declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.98 percent to close at 1,895.21 points.
