HK holds recruitment events in UK to attract overseas medical talents

HONG KONG – Representatives of Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority participated in recruitment events in the United Kingdom over the weekend to introduce to overseas healthcare talents the latest pathways for working in Hong Kong.

Organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, the events took place in London and Manchester on Saturday and Sunday and attracted around 300 medical students and medical practitioners who participated in person or online.

The attendees learned about the different working environments of public healthcare services in Hong Kong, including clinical work in public hospitals, teaching, research work in universities, and various positions in public health and primary healthcare

“We exchanged views regarding the working environment, remuneration packages, career prospects of working in the Hong Kong public healthcare sector as well as the advantages of healthcare services development, ” Hospital Authority Chief Executive, Tony Ko Pat-sing said, adding that the HA established a Global Healthcare Professional Recruitment Centre to coordinate all overseas recruitment programs.

The attendees learned about the different working environments of public healthcare services in Hong Kong, including clinical work in public hospitals, teaching, research work in universities, and various positions in public health and primary healthcare, according to an HKSAR government statement. 

Ko said the HA has simplified the recruitment process to provide a one-stop inquiry service through an online platform and instant messaging apps for healthcare professionals who are interested in working or taking part in exchanges in Hong Kong. 

"The response to this recruitment event in the UK has been very satisfactory. We are confident in recruiting many suitable non-locally trained doctors to join the HA to serve patients,” Ko said.
