HK reports 5 new COVID-19 cases, tally touches 5,289

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported five new coronavirus infections on Saturday, including one local case with no known origin, bringing the city’s overall tally to 5,289.

In a press briefing in the afternoon, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the communicable disease branch of the Centre for Health Protection, said the sole locally transmitted case involved a 56-year-old man who lives in Quarry Bay and works in Mong Kok.

He fell ill on Wednesday and sought medical help the next day. His coronavirus test result came back positive, Chuang said.

Among the four new imported cases, one involved a domestic helper from Indonesia. The three others were from France, Pakistan and the United Kingdom, respectively.

Chuang said that less than 10 preliminary positive cases were reported on Saturday, including one case with no known origin involving a 42-year-old man.

According to the Hospital Authority, 109 patients are still being treated in hospitals, including 12 in critical condition.
