Commissioner's office slams US over 'autonomy act' report
By Xinhua

HONG KONG - The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday expressed firm opposition to and solemnly refuted the US' so-called "Hong Kong Autonomy Act" report concocted by the US government.

In the report, the US side openly slandered the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR, arbitrarily sanctioned Chinese personnel and interfered in Hong Kong affairs which are China's internal affairs, a spokesperson for the office said.

The spokesperson said the National Security Law in Hong Kong has filled the loophole in Hong Kong's protection of national security and ended the rampancy of "Hong Kong independence" forces and reversed the chaos caused by "black violence". Hong Kong has ushered in a major turning point from chaos to governance, and a new page has been turned on the practice of "one country, two systems", the spokesperson added.

The wrong words and deeds of the US cannot stop the steady and enduring growth of "one country, two systems" and the prospect of Hong Kong's integration into the development of the country, a spokesperson for the Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR said

It has been proved that the law targets an extremely small minority of anti-China activists who endanger national security, and protects the vast majority of law-abiding residents and foreigners in Hong Kong, allowing the rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong people in accordance with the law to be effectively protected, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that the US ignored the fact that Hong Kong is becoming more stable and better, the mainstream public opinion that Hong Kong society is regrouping and starting again, and the principle of international law of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

The US side concocted the so-called report, defamed the National Security Law in Hong Kong, smeared the actions taken by the Chinese central government and the HKSAR government to set things right, imposed sanctions on officials of the central government and the HKSAR government, and propped up those who are anti-China and seek to destabilize Hong Kong. This has once again exposed the sinister intentions of the US in its attempt to contain China's development, the spokesperson said.

However, the wrong words and deeds of the US cannot stop the steady and enduring growth of "one country, two systems" and the prospect of Hong Kong's integration into the development of the country.

The spokesperson stressed that Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong and Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs. The US should correct its mistakes and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs in any way. China will continue to take resolute and effective measures to safeguard the interests of national sovereignty and security and safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and related personnel.
