HK: 5 local cases among 8 new infections, tally touches 5,132

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported eight new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, including five local cases, taking the city’s overall infection tally to 5,132.

In a worrying trend, three out of the five new local cases have no known origins, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the communicable disease branch of the Centre for Health Protection, said at a press briefing.

The remaining two involved a 43-year-old man who lived in Wan Chai and worked at a restaurant of the Royal Garden hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, and a 22-year-old student who lived in Tuen Mun, Chuang added.

The three imported cases were from Germany, Russia and the Philippines.

From Sept 30 to Oct 5, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has inspected 9,300 catering business premises, Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee said at a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

A total of 47 operators have been charged after being found to have violated infection control regulations, Chan said.

A total of 117 confirmed patients are currently hospitalized, among which 10 patients are in critical condition, according to the Hospital Authority.
