Police: More than 10,000 arrested over social unrest in HK

HONG KONG - A total of 10,016 people were arrested from June 9, 2019 to Sept 6, 2020 in relation to last year's chaos and violent incidents, the Hong Kong Police Force said on Tuesday.

In a social media post, the police said 2,210 persons were formally charged and the top three charges were rioting (687 people charged), unlawful assembly (383) and possession of offensive weapons (327).

The police said that 462 out of the 550 offenders who have gone through judicial proceedings are subject to legal consequences.
