BEIJING/WUHAN/HARBIN - The overall confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland by Thursday was updated to 82,692, as the city of Wuhan in central China's Hubei province revised its figures on Friday morning, said an official on Friday.

The death toll on the mainland by Thursday was also renewed to 4,632, said Mi Feng, an official with the National Health Commission at a press conference in Beijing.

Wuhan has made revisions to it figures for COVID-19 confirmed cases and deaths, to ensure that the information on the city's COVID-19 epidemic is open and transparent, and the data are accurate, according to a notification

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Wuhan as of the end of April 16 was revised up by 325 to 50,333, and the number of fatalities up by 1,290 to 3,869, according to a notification from the Wuhan municipal headquarters for the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control.

The revisions were made in accordance with related laws and regulations, as well as the principle of being responsible for history, the people and the deceased, according to the notification.  

This ensures that the information on the city's COVID-19 epidemic is open and transparent, and the data are accurate, according to the notification.

"What lie behind epidemic data are the lives and health of the general public, as well as the credibility of the government," said an official for the municipal headquarters, adding that the timely revision of the figures, among other things, shows respect for every single life.  

The notification was published as the commission said Friday that it received reports of 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland Thursday, of which 15 were imported.

The other 11 new cases were domestically transmitted, the National Health Commission said in a daily report, noting that five cases were reported in Guangdong province, three in Heilongjiang province, two in Shandong province and one in Liaoning province.

No deaths were reported Thursday on the mainland. Three new suspected cases, all domestic ones, were also reported, with two in Heilongjiang province and one in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

According to the commission, 52 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery Thursday, while the number of severe cases decreased by 6 to 89.

As of Thursday, the mainland had reported a total of 1,549 imported cases. Of the cases, 670 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, 879 were being treated with 45 in severe condition, said the commission.

No death from the imported cases had been reported, it added.

The commission said 1,081 patients were still being treated, and 77,944 people had been discharged after recovery.

The commission also said that 62 people, including 57 from abroad, were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

It added that 8,970 close contacts were still under medical observation. On Thursday, 412 people were released from medical observation.

Also on Thursday, 66 new asymptomatic cases, including three from abroad, were reported on the mainland. A total of 10 asymptomatic cases, of which six were imported, were re-categorized as confirmed cases, and 50 were released from medical observation including eight imported cases, according to the commission.

The commission said 1,038 asymptomatic cases, including 206 from abroad, were still under medical observation.

By Thursday, 1,017 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 395 in Taiwan including six deaths.

Heilongjiang reported 8 new imported cases, all of whom were Chinese nationals returning from Russia

A total of 485 patients in Hong Kong, 16 in Macao and 155 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery. 

Hubei

No new confirmed cases and deaths were reported in Hubei Thursday, local health authorities said Friday.

The provincial health commission said Hubei had 610 asymptomatic cases under medical observation by Thursday, adding that 32 such cases were reported on Thursday.

A total of 17 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery on Thursday. All of them were from the city of Wuhan. Among the 129 patients being treated in hospital, 15 were still in severe condition and 17 others in critical condition.

Heilongjiang

Heilongjiang on Thursday reported eight new imported confirmed cases besides the three new domestically-transmitted cases, the provincial health commission said Friday.

All the new imported cases were Chinese nationals returning from Russia. Of them, four were previously asymptomatic cases, according to the commission.

By Thursday, the province had reported a total of 364 confirmed imported COVID-19 cases. It had traced 2,093 close contacts, with 1,337 still under medical observation.

Heilongjiang on Thursday also reported a new imported asymptomatic case. The province had a total of 47 imported asymptomatic cases by Thursday.
