CE: SAR govt to improve civil service management system

HONG KONG – The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will improve the civil service management system, motivate civil servants to scale higher and demonstrate the citizen-oriented service culture, the SAR’s chief executive said on Monday.

John Lee Ka-chiu made the statement while commending and congratulating the winners of the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2022.

Prizes were presented in four categories for this year’s award scheme, including the Excellence in Partnership Awards, Excellence in Service Enhancement Awards, Excellence in Team Collaboration Awards and the newly introduced Innovation and Technology Awards in collaboration with the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau.

The CE encouraged various departments to complement each other while performing respective functions in order to achieve synergy and create the greatest value for society

Fifty-five entries from 32 bureaus and departments were awarded under 11 categories, according to a government statement.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the CE lauded the achievements of every winning and participating project, which he described as good stories of the civil service and examples of outstanding achievements worthy of public recognition.

The core value of heeding the people’s needs, the civil service team responds to people’s aspirations for a better life, and contributes to the integration into the country’s national development, he said.

Lee also encouraged various departments and their staff to complement each other while performing respective functions in order to achieve synergy and create the greatest value for society.

Also attending the ceremony, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung expressed her hope that the award scheme would give wider recognition to the efforts in the civil service.

Government staff can inspire and learn from each other to reinforce the citizen-oriented service ethos, with a view to enhancing the quality of public service for the benefit of the citizens and Hong Kong’s development, she said.
