Central govt firmly backs Lam in leading HK administration

BEIJING - The central government firmly supports chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam in leading the HKSAR government’s administration under the rule of law, said Yang Guang, a spokesman for the the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

The central govt supports HK's police in law enforcement, and HKSAR govt agencies and the judiciary in meting out punishment to violent criminals according to law, a spokesman said in Beijing

He made the remarks on Monday during a news conference about the central government’s view of the recent illegal protests in Hong Kong.

The central government also supports the Hong Kong police in strict law enforcement, and the HKSAR government agencies and judiciary body in meting out punishment to violent criminals according to law, he said.

The principle of "one country, two systems" is the best institutional arrangement for maintaining the long-term prosperity and stability in the the HKSAR, said Yang Guang. The central government will continue to implement the "one country, two systems" principle the way it always has, he said.

Liasion Office support

In Hong Kong, further support came Lam's way when Qiu Hong, deputy director of the Central People's Government Liaison Office in HKSAR, lauded her ontribution at Women Power Forum on Monday afternoon.

Qiu said, “It is especially worth mentioning here that as the first female chief executive Hong Kong SAR, Mrs Carrie Lam is the pride of many of us. She's highly professional, resolute, diligent and extremely hardworking. Her love and devotion for Hong Kong and citizens gain respect from all of us. On this occasion I would like to stress that liaison office of the central people's government in Hong Kong SAR strongly opposes violence in any form. We firmly support chief executive carrie Lam to exercise law-based governance, and firmly supports Hong Kong police to strictly enforce the law to safeguard Hong Kong's peace and stability.

"Let us join together to make louder and clearer voice to oppose violence, to promote rule of law to support the SAR government and the Hong Kong police to strictly enforce the law and to safeguard social harmony. With joined hands I believe we will, and we can make greater contributions to Hong Kong that we all love.”
