UNITED NATIONS - Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday proposed on improvements to UN peacekeeping operations at a UN high-level meeting.

Peacekeeping operations should help create conducive environment for the sustainable development and lasting peace in the receiving country, Wang said

Attending the meeting on Action for Peacekeeping during the 73rd Session of UN General Assembly, Wang said peacekeeping operations must be carried out with the parties' consent while abiding by the principles of UN Charter such as equal treatment to all countries' sovereignties, non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful settlement.

It always stays at the core of the UN peacekeeping missions to settle international disputes by political means, Wang said, adding that mandating peacekeeping operations should be more practical and feasible.

Wang also attached great importance to follow-up conducts after the operations.

Peacekeeping operations should help create conducive environment for the sustainable development and lasting peace in the receiving country, said Wang.

He added that all parties concerned, including contributors of troops and police, funding nations and receiving nations, should work closely in these peacekeeping practices.

China supports the Declaration of Shared Commitments on UN peacekeeping Operations and is willing to work with other countries in a joint effort to make the peacekeeping actions benefit every corner of the world, Wang added.

The Declaration of Shared Commitments on UN Peacekeeping is part of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' effort to strengthen support for UN peacekeeping operations, which has been endorsed by up to 131 countries.
