HONG KONG – A spokesman for the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has strongly condemned the attack on Legislative Councillor Kwong Chun-yu.

Kwong sustained injuries after a suspected planned attack on Tuesday. 

Police will follow up seriously in order to bring those responsible to justice, said the spokesman.

Saying that the HKSAR government is fair in the face of all illegal and violent acts, the spokesman stressed that police will strictly enforce the law to protect the safety of the people. 

Pointing out that the city has all along been a pluralistic and inclusive society as well as one of the safest cities in the world, the spokesman appealed to members of the public to express their views in a peaceful and rational manner and respect each other.
