NEW YORK — Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Tuesday that decoupling from the Chinese economy would be decoupling from opportunities, and from the future.

Opening-up is China's set state policy, and the country will never close its door, which will only open even wider, Wang Yi said

Wang Yi made the remarks while addressing a dinner co-hosted by National Committee on US-China Relations, US-China Business Council, US Chamber of Commerce and Council on Foreign Relations.

Mutually beneficial cooperation is the only option for China and the United States and neither country has taken advantage of the other, Wang said. He also said opening-up is China's set state policy, and the country will never close its door, which will only open even wider, Wang said.

China has found a development path that suits its national reality, said Wang, adding that the country will be steadfast and resolute in advancing along the path it has chosen and in the direction it has set.

Wang also said that unilaterally initiating a trade war is not the right prescription.

He called upon the United States to avoid picking another misguided fight with the wrong country.

Economic globalization, as the trend of the times, should not and cannot be held back, Wang noted.

China has no intention to play the "game of thrones" on the world stage, Wang also said, adding that seeking hegemony has never been in Chinese DNA.

On China-US trade frictions, Wang said China has kept its door to negotiation open, and the negotiation must be based on mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and honoring one's word with action

He said China-US trade frictions need to be resolved through dialogue and consultation.

China has kept its door to negotiation open, and the negotiation must be based on mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and honoring one's word with action, Wang said.

Wang stressed the importance of economic cooperation as the "ballast" and people-to-people exchanges the "propeller" in China-US relations.

The development goals of China and the United States are not mutually exclusive, and the two sides may well work with each other to attain their respective goals, said Wang.

Competition and disagreement between China and the United States is nothing new, said Wang, but they must not let their mind be controlled by prejudice and apprehension, or let their relationship be defined by conflict and confrontation.

Real harmony is anchored upon recognition of and respect for disparities, said Wang.

For the sake of the two countries and this world, China and the United States must find a way for major countries different in social system and cultural background to live together on this planet in peace and cooperate with each other for win-win results, Wang said.

The two sides must turn to history to look for inspiration and guidance for their relations in the next 40 years, said Wang.

During his speech, Wang also said for the China-US relationship to remain stable, the most important thing is to respect each other's territorial sovereignty, social system and development path.

China did not and will not interfere in US internal affairs, and China expects the United States to treat China in the same spirit and not to interfere in China's internal affairs, Wang said.

In his speech, Wang debunked rumors about the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region with truths and facts.

Rumors find no market among the fair-minded and pale in the face of facts, Wang said.
