CARACAS - Venezuelan judges have ordered the arrest of opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez after he joined in an attempted coup and violated his house arrest on Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Justice said on Thursday.

The court ordered Lopez to continue "serving his 13-year prison sentence."

"It's a public, notorious violation by Leopoldo Lopez of his house arrest, to appear and make statements to mass media outlets," the court said.

On Tuesday, Lopez appeared at a military base in eastern Caracas with opposition leader Juan Guaido, also the president of National Assembly, who urged Venezuela's public and military to take to the streets and help depose President Nicolas Maduro and his government.

Maduro on Thursday led a "march for military loyalty", calling on the National Bolivarian Armed Forces (FANB) to remain united.

"We are making a new history and the FANB must appear before the people united - increasingly united, increasingly disciplined, more subordinate to the constitutional leadership," Maduro said.

In a televised national address, Maduro hailed the loyalty "in our fight against imperialism, against traitors and coup mongers." The event was aimed at recognizing the military's role in thwarting Tuesday's attempted "coup" by the opposition leaders.
