HONG KONG — The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government strongly condemned five radical activists for storming the government headquarters in Admiralty on Friday morning.

Three activists from local political party Demosisto and two students from Lingnan University have been arrested after attempting to launch a sit-in protest against a government proposal to allow fugitive transfer.

A government spokesperson said the government office is where public officers work and is never a place for public processions and assemblies

A security officer was injured and sent to hospital.

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, a government spokesperson said the government office is where public officers work and is never a place for public processions and assemblies.

"The Government respects the rights of the public to express their views, but the effective, secure and smooth operation of the CGO should be safeguarded at the same time,” according to the statement.

The activists along with other radical demonstrators gathered outside the government offices early Friday, demanding the government to exclude the Chinese mainland from the proposed fugitive transfer mechanism.
