HOKKAIDO — Divers swim in frigid water beneath drift ice in the Sea of Okhotsk off Shari, Hokkaido.
The main season for diving beneath drift ice has arrived, with divers making holes in the frozen ocean surface to explore the huge chunks of ice from below.
A 47-year-old diving instructor from Singapore said: “I can make out the shape of the drift ice more clearly from under water. There were also beautiful rays of light shining through the ice.”
