Koreas to jointly consult IOC to co-host 2032 Summer Olympics

SEOUL – The two Koreas on Friday agreed to jointly consult with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding co-hosting the 2032 Summer Olympic Games, according to Seoul’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Seoul and Pyongyang agreed to jointly have a meeting with the IOC officials on Feb 15 in Lausanne

The agreement came after sports talks between officials of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), held earlier in the day at the joint liaison office in DPRK border town of Kaesong.

The ROK delegation was led by Vice Sports Minister Roh Tae-kang while the DPRK side by Vice Sports Minister Won Kil-u.

The two sides discussed details on how to jointly participate in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and co-host the 2032 Summer Olympics.

As part of the efforts to co-host the Summer Olympics in 2032, Seoul and Pyongyang agreed to jointly have a meeting with the IOC officials on Feb 15 in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the international Olympic body is headquartered.

The two sides agreed to jointly deliver a letter to the IOC at an early date to express their intention to co-host the Summer Olympics.

For the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, the two Koreas agreed to let their athletes march together during an opening ceremony and field unified teams in events, which are suggested by international summer sports federations or the two Koreas jointly fielded in previous sports events.
