BEIJING — The establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Solomon Islands on the basis of the one-China principle conforms to the trend of the times and benefits the two peoples, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday.
Xi told Sogavare that there is no particular order of friendship
In a meeting with the Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Xi told Sogavare that there is no particular order of friendship.
As long as it is maintained, the friendship will enjoy bright prospects, Xi said.
Noting the geographical significance of Solomon Islands on the southern stretch of the 21st century maritime Silk Road, the president encouraged the two nations to take the opportunity of the signing of the MOU on the joint construction of the Belt and Road, step up synergy of development strategies, and create new highlights of cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, infrastructural construction, agriculture, fishery, forestry, transport and telecommunication.
Xi also mentioned the great potential over tourism and welcomed the South Pacific country to take an active part in the activities of the 2019 Year of Tourism for China and Pacific island countries.
