MUMBAI - When Indians are all set for the festive season, the entire online and offline giants are offering fresh markets with more innovative features.
E-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon have come up with initiatives to attract shoppers from tier-II cities.
Ranging from a variety of products to easy EMI options, instant credit lines and better logistics infrastructure, the competition between Flipkart and Amazon is expected to be stronger this year.
"So far the online story was dominated by the 3Ms: male, money and metro cities," RedSeer Consulting's engagement manager Ujjwal Chaudhry was quoted as saying by The Financial Express on Monday.
"Of the 500 million internet users, only 100 million shop online. This figure is expected to grow to 185 million by 2020. A majority of the growth is driven by tier-II and tier-III shoppers, which is growing by 40 percent year-on-year," he adds.
"By 2020, women customers from tier-II and tier-III markets are going to drive consumption. We expect 100 percent growth, where 50 percent of it is expected to be propelled by fashion," said Flipkart's senior director Smrithi Ravichandran.
