HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s government on Saturday refuted malicious rumors that a protester had been killed in a metro station, clarifying that there had been no deaths resulting from enforcement actions in the last three months.

The government statement came after a rumor surfaced that a protester had been killed during police's enforcement actions in Prince Edward MTR Station on Aug 31.
In its daily press conference on Monday, the Hong Kong Police Force rejected categorically the rumor. It reiterated again, on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, that such rumor was totally false and unfounded.

On Friday, the Fire Services Department said that seven people injured at the scene that night were escorted by ambulancemen to Lai Chi Kok MTR Station by a specially arranged train, and were taken to Caritas Medical Centre and Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment by pre-arranged ambulances.
The Hospital Authority has reconfirmed that there were no cases involving deaths in the MTR incident according to its records.
"Any online rumor that says otherwise is not only false, but also malicious," a government spokesman said on Saturday.

"It is a deep regret that such irresponsible rumor keeps spreading with the ill intent to mislead general members of the public, and to sow division and discontent in society at a time when the government is sincerely trying to establish the dialogue platform," he added.
