MTR Corp said on Friday it has obtained from the High Court an interim injunction that prohibits obstructing or damaging operations at all its stations and trains through Aug 30.

The railway operator sought the injunction after several incidents that saw its facilities vandalized and employees harassed, as well as the safety of employees and passengers threatened, the company said in a statement.

The injunction restrains people from obstructing or interfering with the proper use of the city’s railway network, or damaging any relevant properties, or using any threatening, abusive, obscene or offensive language or willfully interfering with the comfort or convenience of any MTR employee at any station

The injunction restrains people from unlawfully and willfully obstructing or interfering with the proper use of the city’s railway network, including subway stations, trains and the West Kowloon station of high-speed rail, or damaging any relevant properties, or using any threatening, abusive, obscene or offensive language or willfully interfering with the comfort or convenience of any MTR employee at any station.

MTR closed the Kwai Fong station at 9 pm on Friday to avoid disturbances and vandalism by protesters.

Trains will not stop at the Kwai Fong station, so passengers need to change their routes or use different transportation, the company said. The station was closed for the safety of passengers and staff. The company did not say when it will reopen.

Protesters claimed that they would come to the station on Friday to protest against the incident there on Aug 11, when police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the station during a dispersal operation.

Protesters staged a protest at the station on Thursday night, besieging the control room and aiming laser beams at MTR employees. They also vandalized facilities such as gate machines, and they sprayed graffiti. Two exits of the station were temporarily closed on Friday morning for repair, MTR said in a separate statement.

MTR condemned the acts of violence and illegal activities, and said it will allow the police to enter stations to take suitable law enforcement action when necessary.

“We support proper enforcement of the law against these illegal activities and reserve the right to take suitable legal actions and seek suitable legal relief from the court,” it added.
