Central government departments based in Hong Kong ought to learn from President Xi Jinping about his care for Hong Kong people, the central government’s top liaison official in the special administrative region has urged.
Wang Zhimin, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, made the call at a recent internal meeting. Also attending the meeting were Xie Feng, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the SAR, and Tan Ben-hong, commander of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison.
Xi had referred to the SAR three times within 10 days ahead of the Spring Festival by paying tribute to the victims of the recent Tai Po bus crash, offering his mourning to late Sinologist Jao Tsungi and sending Spring Festival greetings to Hong Kong youths in a letter to members of the Junior Police Call, which he visited in June last year.

The president’s concerns showed his care for Hong Kong, Wang said, and demonstrated his pledge to connect Zhongnanhai, headquarters of the central government, with all people in China.
Wang urged the central government agencies based in the SAR to align themselves with the president’s people-centered concept and push further “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong.
