Live la dolce vita
Great news for Italophiles — the Italia Mia Festival begins this week, running until December with a myriad of events that will make you feel as if you’re living in Italy. The cavalcade of not-to-be-missed events kicks off with Italiocinema, an event bringing this year’s best Italian films to Hong Kong, fresh from film festivals around the world.
The following week will offer a rich Renaissance experience with twelve of Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings arriving from Milan as well as educational talks on Dante’s Divine Comedy. Check out the program for details of many more events, including the three-act opera Rigoletto, music at the Klassik Swing Quartet Concert and various truffle-filled culinary events. Not forgetting a bunch of charity-oriented events, including RunITALY on October 7.

Life and death in negatives
Shanghai artist Qin Yifeng is fascinated by pieces of old, crumbling furniture. To him, their neglect over the years symbolizes the changes in traditional Chinese values. Through negative imagery, Qin strips the objects of their color, capturing the essence of life and death between cracks of wood and corroded metal. The results are spellbinding: the objects appear like shadows on a flat, gray surface, giving an illusory two-dimensional effect to his photographs.
