HONG KONG - The Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHRSS), developed by the Food and Health Bureau and the Hospital Authority, has won the Innovative eHealth Solutions Award of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global Information and Communications Technology Excellence Awards 2018.

As at mid-February this year, more than 690,000 patients had already registered with the system

The Commissioner for the Electronic Health Record Ida Lee said the system provides the necessary information technology infrastructure for facilitating the two-way sharing of patient health records among public and private healthcare providers in the city.

"It helps enhance continuity of care for patients and improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare services. It also plays a role in promoting primary care and medical-social collaboration.

The HKSAR government-led, territory-wide system was launched in March 2016. With patients' informed consent, service providers in both the public and private sectors can view and share their electronic health records on a need-to-know basis.
