BUENOS AIRES - Veteran manager Miguel Angel Russo has been re-appointed head coach of Boca Juniors, almost 13 years after guiding the Argentinian giants to the Copa Libertadores title.

I'm very happy to be back. I hope to be able to win the Copa Libertadores and celebrate it at La Bombonera

Russo replaces Gustavo Alfaro, who parted ways with the club earlier this month after just 11 months in the role.

"I'm very happy to be back. I hope to be able to win the Copa Libertadores and celebrate it at La Bombonera," Russo told a news conference in Buenos Aires late on Monday.

Russo had been out of work since being sacked by Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno in October. The 63-year-old's return to the Bombonera reportedly came at the behest of newly elected deputy chairman Juan Roman Riquelme, who played under Russo when Boca secured their sixth and most recent Copa Libertadores title in 2007.
