HONG KONG – A university professor appeared in Shatin Magistrates’ Courts Monday hours after police charged him with murdering his wife and daughter in 2015.

Officers of Sha Tin’s District Crime Squad arrested Khaw Kim-sun, 52, an associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) department of anesthesia and intensive care, raiding his home at Tai Tung Tsuen in Ma On Shan on Monday morning.

It was reported that Khaw’s wife Wong Siew-fing, 47, and their daughter Khaw Lai-ling, 16, were found unconscious in a locked private car on Sai Sha Road, Ma On Shan on May 22, 2015. They were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital later and pronounced dead there later.

A post-mortem revealed that they died of inhaling carbon monoxide, according to a statement from the police.

The car allegedly belonged to a company the couple had shares of.

The couple raised four children. The deceased girl was the second child of the family.

The prosecution moved to transfer the case to the High Court.

Khaw, who is Malaysian Chinese, chose not to post bail.

The case was adjourned Oct 16 when it will be heard at Eastern Magistrates’ Court.
