TechCrunch is poised to move into the Hong Kong market this year under Oath, a media subsidiary of United States telecommunications conglomerate Verizon, Rico Chan, managing director of Oath Hong Kong, Japan and India-Southeast Asia has announced.
Oath covers more than 50 media brands at present, including Yahoo, Engadget, HuffPost, Flickr, Tumblr and Flurry.
Oath will launch TechCrunch in Hong Kong in the second half of this year, while another online technology publisher Engadget Chinese will expand its exposure to Yahoo Style and Yahoo TV, Chan said. Yahoo Hong Kong’s flagship products such as Yahoo TV, Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Auctions will provide enriched features and services.
To reinforce its “mobile focus” and integrate its comprehensive content and mobile platform, Oath will partner with leading handset manufacturers to secure mobile pre-emption and collaborate with top operators to offer Yahoo apps users free data. Oath will also create mobile content across a wide range of categories include news, finance, sports and entertainment, and create a market-leading mobile ecosystem to build brands, Chan said.
He hopes the launch of new bands and improved content on existing platforms will contribute to double-digit user growth.
“Oath will continue to captivate our audiences by providing a series of new initiatives strategized by the ‘All Mobile Focus’ direction and bringing in well-known international brands including TechCrunch, to keep enriching the user’s experience with amazing video content and technologies that connect and inspire, to power the best mobile experiences with our data, thus, further enhancing the effectiveness of advertising solutions and opening up tremendous business opportunities for advertisers,” he said.
