TOKYO — Japanese irises are in full bloom at Horikiri Shobuen park in Katsushika ward, Tokyo, as the Meteorological Agency announced last Friday that the rainy season had likely started in the Kanto-Koshin region.

On that day, people holding umbrellas and children in raincoats were seen in a drizzling rain admiring the flowers in various colors such as purple and white. There are 6,000 Japanese irises of 200 varieties planted in the park.

The flowers are at their best until around mid-June, according to the park. The Katsushika Shobu Matsuri festival is being held at the park through June 16 and the flowers will be lit up from 7 pm to 9 pm on June 8.
