HONG KONG - The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong has condemned violent acts against journalists and said it was deeply concerned that reporters have been victimized while covering recent protests across the city.
We strongly condemn all forms of irrational and violent acts against journalists. We hope that the community would allow emotions to calm down and end all forms of violence

The response came after a Global Times reporter from the mainland was tied up, insulted and assaulted by a group of radical protesters at Hong Kong International Airport Tuesday night. He was later sent to the hospital for treatment and was discharged on Wednesday.
The organization said newsgathering is the duty of journalists and that no one should mistreat journalists in the course of their work.
"We strongly condemn all forms of irrational and violent acts against journalists. We hope that the community would allow emotions to calm down and end all forms of violence," the society said.
The All-China Journalists Association also condemned the assault of the Global Times reporter on Wednesday.
In a statement, the association expressed deep solicitude for the reporter and paid high respect to his courage as he voiced his support for Hong Kong police even in danger.
