Jeremy Poon appointed HK High Court's chief judge

HONG KONG – Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has appointed Honourable Justice Jeremy Poon Shiu-chor as chief judge of the city's High Court, according to a government press release issued on Wednesday.

Poon, 57, served as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court prior to his latest appointment, which needs approval by the Legislative Council.

Lam made the appointment based on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission. Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal Geoffrey Ma Tao-li welcomed the decision.

Poon said he is honored by the appointment, adding that he would do his best to serve his new post.
