BEIJING – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arrive in Beijing Thursday to brief China on Tuesday’s summit between President Donald Trump and the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un in Singapore.
Pompeo’s visit comes at the invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The two sides will exchange opinions on bilateral ties and important international and regional issues of common concern, said the spokesperson.
Describing Pompeo's visit as "an important high-level exchange between the two sides," Geng said China hopes to promote understanding, manage differences and expand cooperation with the United States.
Maintaining sound and stable development of ties between China and the US is not only in the interests of the two sides, but also of the whole world, Geng said, adding that the international community looks forward to it.
