MOSCOW - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday discussed the schedule of political contacts between Moscow and Washington, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In a telephone conversation, Lavrov and Pompeo discussed bilateral relations, including the schedule of two countries' political contacts in the near future, the ministry said in a statement.

They also touched upon issues regarding the Syrian settlement on the basis of the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and tasks of pooling efforts to address the issues of the Korean Peninsula, according to the statement.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that it was "possible" he could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin this summer.

Echoing his remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said later on the day that Russia does not rule out the possibility of the two leaders meeting this summer, according to Russian media.

Relations between Washington and Moscow deteriorated in the past year over alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 US presidential campaign.
