HONG KONG – More than 46,000 travelers arrived in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Sunday as quarantine-free travel resumed between the SAR and the Chinese mainland.
According to the website of the HKSAR Immigration Department, the city logged 46,098 arrivals while 62,409 departures were recorded.
The arrivals included 35,163 Hong Kong residents, 5,046 mainland visitors, and 5,889 other visitors. The departures involved 46,884 Hong Kong residents, 8,328 mainland visitors and 7,197 other visitors

From Jan 8, 60,000 people are allowed to travel daily each way between the SAR and the mainland using seven land, air and sea control points. The travelers will not be subject to quarantine, but need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours.
The four Hong Kong checkpoints that resumed operations are Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To, Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan and China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui.
At the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, 5,680 arrivals were recorded including 4,593 Hong Kong residents, 934 mainland visitors, and 153 other visitors. The checkpoint had 17,133 departures involving 14,473 Hong Kong residents, 2,415 mainland visitors, and 245 other visitors.
The Hong Kong International Airport had 30,275 arrivals that included 23,121 Hong Kong residents, 3,019 mainland visitors, and 4,135 other arrivals. It also recorded 18,344 Hong Kong residents, 2,949, and 4,410 other visitors leaving the SAR.
At the Shenzhen Bay immigration control point, 3,543 arrivals were reported. They comprised 2,388 Hong Kong residents, 825 mainland visitors, and 330 other visitors. The checkpoint logged 8,828 departures that included 6,323 Hong Kong residents, 2,200 mainland visitors, and 305 other visitors.
The control point at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge had 5,321 arrivals, which comprised 4,099 Hong Kong residents, 158 mainland visitors, and 1,064 other visitors. There were also 8,114 departures that involved 5,566 Hong Kong residents, 560 mainland visitors, and 1,988 other visitors.
According to the immigration website, the Macau Ferry Terminal had 911 arrivals and 1,896 departures, Man Kam To had 326 arrivals and 681 departures, while the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui had 42 arrivals and 54 departures.
