HONG KONG – The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Friday gazette separate regulations on renewed UN sanctions against Congo and South Sudan.

With the gazette notification, the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2019 (Amendment) Regulation 2022 and the United Nations Sanctions (South Sudan) Regulation 2019 (Amendment) Regulation 2022 came into operation the same day.

The amendment regulation for the DRC renews prohibitions against the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related materiel to certain persons; the provision of assistance, advice or training related to military activities in certain circumstances; making available to, or for the benefit of, certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources; dealing with funds or other financial assets or economic resources belonging to, or owned or controlled by, certain persons or entities; and the entry into or transit through Hong Kong by certain persons.

Meanwhile, the South Sudan amendment regulation renews prohibitions against the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related materiel to South Sudan; the provision of technical assistance, training or financial or other assistance related to military activities in certain circumstances; making available to, or for the benefit of, certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources; dealing with funds or other financial assets or economic resources belonging to, or owned or controlled by, certain persons or entities; and entry into or transit through Hong Kong by certain persons.
