HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Special Administrative government will strengthen national education in the city with an updated curriculum and enhanced teaching materials, Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin said Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after a radio interview, Choi said the government also plans to provide more activities for students to learn more about the country from different perspectives. She dismissed suggestions that this was brainwashing.

“National education is always a very important area that we have to work for. For example, we will update our curriculum, enhance our learning and teaching materials, (provide) more teacher professional training and more activities for our students to have knowledge about our country from different perspectives,” Choi said.

She said students in the territory have "life-wide learning experiences" and pick up first-hand information.

“They can have reflections after their learning. I don't think that it is brainwashing,” she added.
