HONG KONG - Hong Kong saw on Monday its coldest day in May in over a century, according to local media reports.

The Hong Kong Observatory recorded a low of 16.4 degrees Celsius on Monday morning, the lowest since 1917, according to the reports.

The HKO said the northeast monsoon is affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong. It will be mainly fine on Tuesday with temperatures ranging between 18 and 24 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to rise in the next couple of days while a band of rain clouds are expected to bring showers to Guangdong over the weekend, the HKO said.
