BEIJING – China on Wednesday firmly rejected the US statement on Taiwan-related issues, urging Washington to stop sending erroneous signals to "Taiwan independence" forces.

Making the call, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson called upon the US to take concrete actions to maintain the political foundation of China-US relations.

Also on Wednesday, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said Taiwan has no right to join the United Nations.

He made the remark in response to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's call on UN members to support Taiwan's participation in the UN system.

All acts aimed at undermining the one-China principle and splitting the country will only end in failure.

The UN is an international intergovernmental organization composed of sovereign states. Taiwan is a part of China, and the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government of China, he said.

The international community has a definite and established practice regarding Taiwan's participation in international organizations and their activities, which is adhering to the one-China principle. The US had been making up statements, including so-called "meaningful participation throughout the UN system", he said.

"This is a serious violation of United Nations resolutions, the one-China principle and the three joint China-US communiques, and sends a very wrong signal to 'Taiwan independence' forces," he said.

Ma said the central government understands the desire of compatriots in Taiwan to participate in international activities, and such arrangements will be made on the basis of the one-China principle.

Democratic Progressive Party authorities have deceived the people of the island and misled international public opinion. The party's wish to seek independence by taking part in international activities is "absolutely impossible", he added, urging DPP authorities to give up the "fantasy" of "relying on foreign countries for independence".

"All acts aimed at undermining the one-China principle and splitting the country will only end in failure," he said.

Peace across the Taiwan Strait be guaranteed and the cross-Strait relations return to the right track only when the provocative moves seeking "Taiwan independence" are curbed, said Ma.

The exercises by the People's Liberation Army are a necessary step to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he told a press conference. The exercises target the secessionist activities seeking "Taiwan independence," including those touting the so-called "two states" theory, and interference by external forces, he said.

The separatist forces are the largest obstacle to achieving China's reunification and pose a serious potential danger to the realization of national rejuvenation, said Ma.

The mainland is willing to go all out for the peaceful reunification of the motherland, but doesn't renounce the use of force and reserve the option of taking all necessary measures, he added.
