The Macao Special Administrative Region will launch a citywide COVID-19 testing on Monday night – its third in the past three months – after 46-year-old man from the neighboring city of Zhuhai tested positive for the virus.

According to Macao health authorities, the new case involved a renovation worker who commuted between Macao and Zhuhai regularly. He had been fully vaccinated with two shots of Sinopharm's vaccine in April and June.

After arriving in Macao on September 26, he underwent several nucleic acid tests with the results coming out negative on September 28 and 30. But in Monday, tes tested psoitive for COVID-19. The investigation to determine the source of infection is still ongoing.

The mass testing of the city's 680,000 residents, to be carried out through 41 testing stations, will begin at 9 pm Monday. The Macao SAR government expects to complete the exercise in three days.

The new case has led Zhuhai to suspend its arrangement to exempt from a 14-day quarantine people crossing the border from Macao if they have a vaccination certificate and a negative nucleic acid test for COVID-19 carried out in the previous 48 hours.

The Macao authorities also suspended the opening of primary and secondary schools on Monday.
