New Election Committee will help align SAR’s interest with national interest

Kennedy Wong Ying-ho says HK can play a fitting role in the 14th Five-Year Plan

Sunday’s Election Committee elections marked an important milestone for the implementation of the “patriots administer Hong Kong” precept, which is the backbone of “one country, two systems”principle but has not been fully understood by some and has not been fully incorporated into the election laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region until this year.

Those successful aspirants had all been recognized by the eligibility vetting body as patriots. I am sure they will nominate and vote for like-minded and capable patriots in the forthcoming Legislative Council election in December and the chief executive election next March.

The new Election Committee has a larger number of members who understand the development of our nation, and together we can foster changes in the work culture of the HKSAR government and Hong Kong society.

With mindless disruptors out of the way, Hong Kong will have a more rational political culture and the relationship between the executive branch and legislature will improve immensely; and constructive forces can work together to overcome the many socioeconomic problems and other challenges that Hong Kong need to deal with urgently.

As a Hong Kong resident who sits on the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, there will be more opportunities to speak out and help Hong Kong people understand the nation’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for development and in particular the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which are vital for Hong Kong’s sustainable development.

The new Election Committee has a larger number of members who understand the development of our nation, and together we can foster changes in the work culture of the HKSAR government and Hong Kong society, so that the HKSAR’s and national interest are aligned and the HKSAR can playing a fitting role in national development as the 14th Five-Year Plan has clearly pointed out.
