HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported five imported COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the city's tally to 11,970.

The five new patients included 36-year-old woman who arrived from Bangladesh, a 27-year-old woman from Cambodia, a 35-year-old woman from the United Arab Emirates, and a 13-year-old girl and her 11-year-old brother from Saudi Arabia, according to a statement issued by the Centre for Health Protection.

The two siblings were exempt from hotel quarantine and isolated themselves at their home in Tang Kung Mansion, Kam Din Terrace in Taikoo Shing. They are believed to be children of a Saudi diplomat, local media reported.

They tested negative at the airport on Friday but the samples collected three days later tested positive for the virus. Tang Kung mansion was cordoned off on Tuesday evening and 400 residents were tested, but health authorities found no new infections.

Also on Wednesday, Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip Tak-kuen visited the University of Hong Kong as about 300 students and faculty members received BioNTech jabs during an on-site vaccination service provided by the government.

"As HKU plans to resume face-to-face classes in the new academic year, more interactions among students are expected. ... I hope that with more students and university staff being vaccinated, a more complete campus life will be resumed," Nip said.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the City University of Hong Kong have also supported the outreach vaccination program by arranging their members to receive jabs through the service, according to the government.
