HONG KONG - More than 2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as of Monday.
In a statement issued Monday night, the HKSAR government said about 2,010,300 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme since Feb 26, 2021.
It added that about 1,193,600 people have received their first dose while about 816,700 already have their second dose.
The HKSAR government said it was also tightening further quarantine rules for arrivals from Singapore and Taiwan
Among those given their first dose, about 515,100 received the Sinovac jab and about 678,500 people got received the BioNTech shot, the government said.
For the second dose, about 376,900 people chose the Sinovac vaccine, while about 439,800 took the BioNTech jab, it added.
The government also released on Wednesday figures debunking the belief that vaccination increases the risk of death, struoke or miscarriage for recepients.
According to information by the HA, during the period from April 19 to May 16, the ratio of death cases out of those without a vaccination record was 53.9 cases for every 100,000 people. In comparison, the ratio of death cases for those with a vaccination record was 3.0 cases for every 100,000 people. The overall death rate is similar to that recorded in the past three years.
Out of those without a vaccination record, the ratio of death cases with acute stroke or acute myocardial infarction was 2.7 cases for every 100 000 people, whereas the ratio of death cases under the same category for those with a vaccination record was 0.4 cases for every 100 000 people.
The ratio of miscarriage cases out of those without a vaccination record was 23.4 cases for every 100,000 people, whereas the ratio of miscarriage cases for those who had a vaccination record was 3.6 cases for every 100 000 people.

In a separate statement, the government said it was also tightening further quarantine rules for arrivals from Singapore and Taiwan.
It said persons who arrived from Taiwan on or before May 15 and are still undergoing home quarantine should finish it in designated quarantine hotels to prevent the spread of the virus.
Travelers from Singapore and Taiwan who are required to undergo 14 days of quarantine should also remain in their place of quarantine until the result of the test conducted on the 19th day of their arrival is available.
If the traveler needs to take public transportation to get tested, he or she should take a taxi and should not to get off along the way.

For those already vaccinated and are required to be quarantined for 7 days, they should also stay at their place of quarantine until the results of the test conducted on the 12th day of their arrival is available.
They will be required to get tested again on the 16th and 19th day of their arrival in Hong Kong, the government added.
