Hong Kong companies are shifting the focus of their investments in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, according to Mandy Ng, regional director for Southern China at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

“Hong Kong companies have reduced their mainland investments in the less profitable manufacturing industry and turned to the professional services,” Ng told the Southern Metropolis Daily newspaper, adding that those investments are in technology applications, capital interconnections, cross-border transactions, value chain extension, and industrial upgrading and transformation.

To encourage greater cooperation, the HKTDC will hold a Guangdong-Hong Kong Cooperation Week in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other GBA cities this year to promote Hong Kong’s products and services, Ng said.

It will also try to act as a bridge between Guangdong and Hong Kong enterprises so that more mainland firms can expand globally through Hong Kong’s international business services.

The much-anticipated GoGBA, a one-stop platform to assist Hong Kong companies and entrepreneurs to tap into opportunities in the area, will be launched in the middle of this year, Ng noted.

The platform will also feature English content so that it can attract foreign companies to the GBA, as well as a GoGBA WeChat mini program.

Ng said that the HKTDC will set up a GBA service center in Shenzhen for small and medium-sized enterprises, the first of its kind outside Hong Kong.
