Mainland reports 2 new local COVID-19 cases in Yunnan

BEIJING/KUNMING - The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported two new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Yunnan province, the National Health Commission (NHC) said in its daily report on Wednesday.

The new cases were found among a group of people who had been potentially exposed to the coronavirus and were under quarantine after new locally-transmitted cases began to emerge in late March, Yunnan's provincial health commission said.

The Chinese mainland also reported 19 new imported cases, 12 of which were posted in Hainan, three in Shanghai, two in Tianjin, and one each in Guangdong and Sichuan, the National Health Commission said

No new suspected COVID-19 cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were reported, while seven new asymptomatic cases were reported, all arriving from outside the mainland.

Another 27 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery, the NHC said, adding that there were 305 patients still receiving treatment, six of whom were in severe conditions.

By the end of Tuesday, 5,543 imported cases had been reported on the mainland with no deaths.

In total, the mainland had reported 90,541 confirmed cases, including 85,600 recoveries and 4,636 deaths.

There was one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland on Tuesday.

By the end of Tuesday, 11,703 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 209 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 49 cases had been reported in the Macao SAR, and 1,078 cases, including 11 deaths, had been reported in Taiwan.

A total of 11,287 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 48 in the Macao SAR, and 1,038 in Taiwan.
