HONG KONG - The Chinese Embassy in the United States on Saturday refuted a media report that said Beijing was pushing for a high-level meeting to ease tensions with the US.

It is hoped that the media outlet carrying this report will respect the facts and cover China-US relations in an objective and responsible way.

According to the report published by the Wall Street Journal on Friday, China has discussed a proposal to send Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, to Washington. The Wall Street Journal report, citing people with knowledge of the matter, said Chinese Ambassador to the US Cui Tiankai had suggested the idea in letters to US officials and through conversations with intermediaries.

“It is hoped that the media outlet carrying this report will respect the facts and cover China-US relations in an objective and responsible way.”
