MOSCOW / WASHINGTON - The Kremlin on Tuesday denied allegations that Russia had sought to disrupt next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo through hacking efforts.
Britain and the United States on Monday condemned what they said were a litany of malicious cyberattacks orchestrated by Russian military intelligence.
“Russia has never carried out any hacking activities against the Olympics,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Russia’s RIA news agency earlier cited an official at the Russian embassy in Washington as saying Moscow rejected the allegations.
“It’s completely obvious that such information releases have nothing to do with reality and are aimed at stoking anti-Russian sentiment in US society and to trigger a witch hunt and spymania,” the official was cited as saying.
The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy, computer hacking, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and false registration of a domain name
Earlier in the day, the US Justice Department said in a statement said the defendants and their co-conspirators caused damage and disruption to computer networks worldwide, including in France, Georgia, the Netherlands, Republic of Korea, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States."
