MADRID - Real Madrid left back Marcelo will miss the last four matches of the La Liga campaign after suffering a muscle injury, the club has confirmed on its official website.

Marcelo should however, be fit in time to play in the return leg of Real Madrid's Champions League last 16 tie when they have to come back from a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City on Aug 7

The Brazilian has torn his left abductor muscle and missed Friday night's home game against Alaves, and will also miss the matches away to Granada on Monday, a home match against Villarreal (where Madrid could assure the league title) and a short trip to Leganes.

Although the club explains the injury is "pending developments," with just 10 days until the end of the domestic campaign there is not enough time for Marcelo to recover and Ferland Mendy will cover for Marcelo in the last four games of the season.

The left back should however, be fit in time to play in the return leg of Real Madrid's Champions League last 16 tie when they have to come back from a 2-1 home defeat to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on August 7th.

The number of games in a short period of time since football resumed in Spain has seen a lot of players suffer muscle problems in recent days, with others such as Athletic Club Bilbao's Yuri Berchiche and Yeray Alvarez also suffering season ending injuries in the past four days.
